It's no secret that Hank Williams Jr., 2020 Country Music Hall of Fame Inductee and five-time Entertainer of the Year, knows how to throw a party so when Hank and his buddies Travis Tritt, The Charlie Daniels Band and JoDee Messina rolled into the Coliseum on September 13, 1997, that's exactly what fans were expecting. The Country Comfort Tour presented by Fruit of Loom did not disappoint! Fans enjoyed a five-hour concert by some of the biggest names in country music—a show described as "hotter than a four-alarm fire"—but they were treated to the ultimate interactive music experience prior to the concert. A state-of-the-art mobile festival was set up in the Coliseum parking lot, the entrance to which was flanked by two 10-foot-tall Gibson guitars. Concert-goers could take photos in front of replicas of the facade of the historic Ryman Auditorium or the Grand Ole Opry stage. The 35,000-square-foot Experience midway contained five tents and three semi trailers of interactive exhibits offering country-oriented computer games, virtual jam sessions with country artists, line dancing and music at Billy Bob's Texas "On the Road." The highlight of the Experience was the mobile country music museum featuring items from Marty Stuart's private collection paying tribute to the legendary Hank Williams Sr., Patsy Cline and Johnny Cash. To further add to the concert atmosphere, a Fruit of the Loom-branded miniature helium balloon could be seen floating above the crowd during set breaks. The average ticket price was $23.75. This concert was the fourth and last time that the late Charlie Daniels would perform at the WVU Coliseum. His first appearance was in 1975.
