Information
Doc Watson and David Holt's previously postponed “Hills of Home” concert has been rescheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 p.m. at the WVU Creative Arts Center. Tickets already purchased for the original Nov. 2 performance will be honored on the new date. Doc Watson and David Holt are hailed as legendary folk singers of the Appalachian life with remarkable storytelling recordings. The duo will play music from their hit CD Legacy, the winner of a 2002 Grammy award for Best Traditional Folk Recording. They will also be joined on stage by Watson’s grandson, Richard, who has been touring with his grandfather since the late 1980s. Arthel “Doc” Watson lost his sight as an infant, but learned to play guitar and banjo as a teenager. In his adulthood, however, he went on to win six Grammy awards and perform in legendary venues including Carnegie Hall. Watson is best known for his flat-picking technique on guitar and in 1997 was honored by former President Clinton with the National Medal of the Arts. David Holt is known for his folk music and storytelling recordings, as well as numerous programs on public radio and television.
