About the Event
Pilobolus is a unique American Arts organization of international influence. It boasts one of the most popular and varied bodies of work in the history of dance. Formed in 1971 to explore an alternative form of contemporary dance, this pioneering company has earned a number of prestigious honors, including the Berlin Critic's Prize, the Brandeis Award, a Primetime Emmy Award for outstanding achievement in cultural programming and the Samuel H. Scripps American Dance Festival Award for lifetime achievement in choreography. Employing the human body as pure sculptural matter, the company incorporates dance, gymnastics, performance art and shadow play to deliver what Newsday proclaims a “mind-blowing” experience. Pilobolus' works are not drawn from the traditions of conventional dance movement. They are invented, having emerged from intense periods of improvisation and creative play. Pilobolus' distinctive choreography and gravity-defying formations challenge the limits of the human body and leave audiences enthralled. Don't miss what promises to be an evening filled with wonder!
